It was formed on January 1, 2001 – created by the amalgamation of the village of Markdale and townships of Artemesia, Euphrasia and Osprey. This included the unincorporated hamlets of Eugenia, Ceylon, Maxwell, Singhampton, Priceville, Kimberley, Badjeros, Feversham and Flesherton.
